When I first shared my story I felt freer. Like a captive bird inside my body had been released.

THE STORIES

Erasing the Distance collects true stories from people whose lives have been impacted by mental health issues. Our library currently stands at nearly 300 interviews and covers a wide range of identities, perspectives, and diagnoses. Those stories are then shared with a wider audience through our podcast and during live/digital performances.

RECORD

TRANSCRIBE & SHAPE

PERFORM

DISCUSS

When someone decides they are ready to share their story a recording session is booked with one of our trained story collectors. During that private one-on-one interview storytellers have the floor to share however they would like for 90 min and will be gently guided by the Erasing the Distance team member. Following the interview, the audio is transcribed word for word and then shaped down into a 10 minute monologue to be performed by professional actors. Each performance is followed by a moderated conversation exploring the themes, unpacking personal bias, and identifying potential recovery options.
