Engaging. Educational. Eye-opening.
Education
ETD’s approach to gathering, transcribing, and staging true stories is unique, and we often have people interested in learning how we do what we do. ETD leads presentations, workshops, trainings, and longer-term programs to teach artists, mental health advocates, and current/future health professionals our specific methodology. In doing so, we hope to generate compassion and understanding for all those impacted by mental health issues. We can even customize the training to fit your individual needs.
.
EXAMPLE: The Chicago School of Professional Psychology
One of ETD’s largest educational partnerships has been with The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (TCSPP). With the guidance of ETD Executive Artistic Director Brighid O’Shaughnessy and ETD Board Vice President Jamie Pekarek Krohn, LCPC, graduate-level future clinicians conducted and transcribed interviews from individuals throughout the Spring 2011 semester. The students then edited and shaped those interviews into theatrical monologues, which were performed as the show Finding Peace in This House in June 2011 (soon to be remounted in January 2012).

“What an amazing, life-changing, powerful process! A great opportunity for me to better appreciate the subjective experiences of individuals who have experienced mental illness.”
